IRIS is a media canvas with a matrix of conventional information display technology. It is a monochrome LCD and it uses black liquid crystals in the phased openings and closings in a circular shape. Iris can create various patterns and control the about of passing light. It is a fun and interactive medium with no emission of light itself. I found this video very interesting because it was something different and interesting to see the two uses of technology being put together. IRIS is supported by the Da Vinci Idea Program and it currently resides in Seoul, Korea.
For our Laser cutting project, we decided to use an inspiration from an old tradition of Chinese Paper cutting. These technique originated from ancient activities of worshiping the ancestor and the gods. Now these are use as decorations for walls, windows, doors and more and symmetrical design is a sign of good luck and express peoples wishes. We also plan to bring out a more modern design, but also using a paper cutting design to create a shape to make it appear it is about to come off the fabric.
For the Lazor cutting exercise would like to use two of my own designs from my senior collection. I have actually planned on trying to sample these designs back when we were working on our senior collections. Now I would like to test them so that way I can see if they work in the fabric I have chosen and so that I may be able to make more looks from my collection. The first being a Cameo of my own design. Some things may have to be changed otherwise it will not work right with the cutter. The second design is much more simple. The inspiration came from a doily in which the design on the edges were cut out to create a pattern. This I hope to use in a shirt or a dress. The fabric I plan on using for the final is a soft while pleather which it's contents contain 60% Polyester and 40% Polyurethane.
OLED lights are becoming more and more popular to use in everyday life. Many of these are used in items like Samsung OLED writs accessories, televisions, and are being integrated into furniture. Other more problem solving uses include lights in fire fighter clothing and OLED blanks for babies. Many of these lights come in different colors, but the most popular being blue. OLED lights are also being used for fashionable purposes by integrating them into dresses or tee shirts. Our first case study is to come up with an idea that may either be used for fashionable purpose or to solve a problem. The biggest challenge for this project is trying to come up with a new idea since I have not worked much with technology.
One of the more interesting things I have seen develop in fashion is the idea of fashionable prosthetic's. Viktoria Modesta is one of the first pop artists to appear with such an idea. With technology growing, especially with 3D printing becoming more accurate and more affordable. This is by far one of the most interesting things being integrated into fashion. This could open up a whole new door in making fashion more unique and interesting. |
